Re number 5 - After graduating from high school on the east coast of the US, I attended college on the west coast of the US and have lived on the west coast ever since. Therefore, nobody needed to move away from me. And since Californians are (as they say) fruits, nuts, and flakes anyway, I fit right in.
I admit to being completely unfamiliar with the Hillsborough disaster, but even your very brief description of it is upsetting.
