Comments for 'Blog in isolation': how to display Google shared items on WordPress - Digging in a Habari sandpit

Wow, the hoops you had to jump through to get that working! One of these days I will make more of an effort to check out Google Reader, but I'm more than happy in Bloglines right now.

That video was insane though, I really would have smacked that computer one if I had spent 10 minutes of my life doing what he did :)

And this is why I use del.icio.us instead of Google Reader Shared Items for sharing stuff like that. :)

engtech: ...but you have to do work (and waste valuable time) to convert del.icio.us bookmarks into your WordPress digest whereas I hit 'Shift-s'.

Donncha: Instead of marveling at my improvisations, please add Atom 1.0 support to the WP RSS widget :-)

Yes... YES!! This is the same problem I'm having! I didn't realize you could use FB to override the default Content-Type.

IT WORKED! You sir, are a genius.

Just to let everyone know, James Wilson has created a widget for this.

    Works like a charm!

Ian: Thanks for the link. Much easier !

Update: With the Atom support added in WordPress 2.3, none of this wizardry is needed any more.

WordPress can now display Google Shared Items as a standard RSS widget.

I installed 2.3.1 and tried adding the original Shared feed and it did not work. I then tried your technique and it still didn't work.
